ILI success on an ‘unpiggable’ pipeline

Jee contributed to the success of an in-line inspection (ILI) campaign in Angola, achieving the first-ever successful inspection on a challenging deepwater multi-diameter pipeline at 2,000 metres depth.

Previous ILI campaigns on the pipeline had been unsuccessful due to a suspected bore restriction. Jee carefully reviewed these past efforts to identify the root cause and inform a more effective approach.

Jee’s experts supported the design and setup of test rigs to replicate the bore restrictions, helping the team prepare for real-world conditions.

Following these tests, gauge and cleaning pigs were redesigned to handle bore changes of up to 60%, ensuring they could navigate the pipeline’s varying dimensions.

The team developed and refined a tool design based on test results, meeting strict project deadlines without compromising quality.

Jee produced clear and essential guidance in the form of documentation, including stuck pig procedures and an offshore execution plan to ensure the smooth running of the campaign.

As a result of the team’s efforts, the client received a complete and uninterrupted dataset, allowing them to fully assess the integrity of the pipeline. This achievement demonstrated Jee’s ability to deliver practical solutions for complex pipeline challenges.
