The Importance of Training and Knowledge Share

The oil and gas industry is an ever evolving environment, with new and updated technologies, processes and regulations coming into place regularly.

To remain up-to-date with these advances and stay on top of best practice, it is imperative that those involved in the sector engage in regular training and knowledge share to retain the high level of skill and competency that is essential throughout the industry. 

Jee , a leading independent multi-discipline subsea engineering and training firm, recognises that effective training conducted by experienced energy professionals is an investment that can have a significant impact on the individual being trained, the company he or she works for, and the industry as a whole.

Jee has an ongoing commitment to offer the most in-depth and up-to-date training to the energy industry. With a training portfolio developed from its extensive engineering capabilities, the company’s expertise lies in providing integrated services across the whole life-of-field, spending 80% of its time working on engineering projects and 20% of its time teaching industry professionals about them.

In 2014 the company added seven new courses to its international programme to help ease the global oil and gas skills gap, ranging from one-day entry foundation level, to four-day advanced practitioner level.

Jee has built up a portfolio of 24 subsea engineering courses offered worldwide to assist in the standardisation of engineering knowledge across the global industry, with many being taught in the energy hubs of Houston and Aberdeen.

With all Jee’s tutors trained as course facilitators and coming from the industry as practising engineers with a wealth of experience in the subsea industry, the company has successfully trained more than 6,000 professional engineers to-date, and delivered courses in more than 30 countries.

To further add to this global reach, Jee has expanded its subsea engineering public courses programme, now offering its world-renowned courses in Norway throughout 2015.

The upcoming courses will be held in the state-of-the-art GE Technology Solutions Centre at Dusavik Port, located in the heart of the oil and gas business sector in Stavanger. An extensive range of Jee courses are available throughout the year including: Integrity Management of Subsea Pipelines, Construction of Subsea Pipelines, Subsea Systems, Risers, Umbilicals and Flexibles, Subsea Controls, and Engineering of Flexibles.

“We are continually developing our training programmes to remain up-to-date with industry advances and trends, and open up new course locations to make our training even more accessible. This year we are excited to launch a suite of public courses in Stavanger, held at GE’s impressive purpose-built Technology Solutions Centre.”

The centre showcases GE’s range of technologies across the oil and gas industry, enabling delegates to see scale models or real-life equipment. An innovative 3D model viewed from a multi-floor atrium in the centre of the building depicts the flow of oil and gas as it moves from the well to the subsea production tree, manifold, FPSO/platform and, eventually, to midstream/downstream facilities. Further enhancing delegates’ experience and learning.

As an introduction to Jee’s subsea engineering and training services, the company ran a series of free subsea pipeline integrity management seminars for Norwegian businesses in December 2014. These well-attended sessions focused on lessons learnt and best practice that Jee had identified whilst working on integrity management projects. 

The seminars enabled Norwegian companies to find out more about best practice integrity management for subsea pipelines, and gave delegates the opportunity to experience first-hand Jee’s world-renowned training approach, leading to a significant number of bookings onto the official courses.

To fulfil the recent and expected demand of its upcoming training courses, last year Jee recruited a further five new tutors to teach their programmes, bringing the total to 21. The company also recently upgraded its state-of-the-art online training site to accommodate the growing number of delegates and to enhance its online and blended learning offering to the oil, gas and renewables industries.

Jee’s site visits vary depending on the public course location but you can enjoy a tour of the facilities at companies such as Online Electronics, OneSubsea, Technip, FMC Technologies and Innospection. The site visits present the opportunity to view components normally only visible on the seabed as well as to talk to the technicians, meet engineers and project managers.
