From aerospace to subsea engineering: my first year at Jee

I started at Jee as a graduate engineer in September 2024. It was an exciting and welcome change for me as I was looking for a chance to kick start my career after completing my MEng at university. Working at Jee has given me the opportunity to contribute to a wide range of projects including decommissioning, design and integrity management. Being involved in work across different disciplines has been a great experience and has helped me build a strong understanding of the industry.

A big bonus has been the chance to get involved in things outside of engineering. I have found myself supporting sales activity, speaking with clients and attending conferences. This has made my role feel much broader and has shown me just how much there is to learn beyond the technical work.

One of the main challenges I have faced is adapting to the industry. At university I studied aerospace engineering which is quite far removed from subsea engineering. I have had good support from managers and plenty of resources to help bridge the gap. It takes some getting used to but the challenge has made the work more rewarding and has definitely kept things interesting.
